Roscommon Go for Glory in Connacht Final

Sunday 18 July 2010 was a massive day in the calendar for the Sierra sponsored Roscommon Senior Football team as they contested the Connacht Senior Football Championship Final. They faced stern opposition in a confident Sligo team, who managed to beat Connacht heavyweights, Galway and Mayo on the way to the final.

Fergal O’ Donnell’s team had endured an indifferent league campaign but that was placed firmly to the back of their minds as they were fully focused on winning their first Connacht Championship since 2001.

Roscommon’s young team gave a great performance with a final score of 0-14 Roscommon, 0-13 Sligo, and Roscommon’s Donal Shine taking man-of-the-match.

Congratulations to all at Roscommon, hopefully this is the first of many successes that our partnership will achieve together.

Sierra secures contract worth up to €60 million with Bord Gáis Energy

Sierra Support Services, a Siteserv plc company and a leading services provider to the telecommunications, power & energy and civil engineering sectors has secured a contract worth up to €60 million to become the sole services provider associated with the installation, maintenance and testing of domestic boilers to Bord Gáis Energy and extension of 21 other products to the market.  The option exists to extend the contract for a further two years bringing the value up to approximately €100 million in total.

As a result, Sierra will incorporate the existing Bord Gáis Energy services into a new division which will initially employ 20 new full time staff in the areas of management and administration.  In addition to a number of subcontracted staff who will transfer to the new division, the company will also create a further 70 building services jobs over the next 12 months. Separately, Sierra will also expand its services into the North of Ireland, establishing an office in this market. The contract was secured in a competitive tender process, in which both international and Irish companies participated.

Commenting on the development, Sierra Support Services Managing Director, TJ Malone, said “We are delighted to have been selected by Bord Gáis Energy as they grow their home energy services market. This is a significant contract for Sierra and an important step in our strategy for growth. The awarding of this contract underpins our ability to deliver a pragmatic, robust, flexible and value-adding solution for the company.

In addition, this contract provides us with a platform to expand our proposition into the North of Ireland which is an untapped market for us and provides us with additional growth potential.”

Chief Executive of Bord Gáis, John Mullins added, “Bord Gáis Energy is committed to growing our home energy services offering and to delivering value added products and services to our customer base in the areas of energy efficiency products and services for the home. Bord Gáis Energy looks forward to working with Sierra to delivering these options and to providing effective and efficient solutions for all householders in Ireland”.

Bord Gáis Energy, in its decision to outsource parts of its Home Energy Division, will now work with Sierra to evolve the current appliance servicing proposition into a wider home energy services offering, by introducing new products and services such as Home Energy Audits, BER’s and insulation. This will help to increase and retain customers, as well as offer a creditable and differentiated product and service.

Sierra's Public Lighting Division

Sierra’s New Public Lighting Division

Sierra has recently forged its own Public Lighting Division.

Former owner of Moroney Electrical, Sean Moroney, has joined Sierra and will lead the Sierra Public Lighting Division as Operations Manager/Contracts Manager, bringing with him to Sierra a team of highly qualified and experienced electricians who have worked on various public lighting schemes for the past 15+ years.

Sierra has recognised the strength a Public Lighting Division could bring to its already strong contingent of Divisions under the utilities banner – power/energy, civil engineering, gas, telecommunications and satellite television. In this vein it has merged with a leader in the public lighting sector, Moroney Electrical, to offer the necessary experience and technical capability to the strength Sierra offers as a company in terms of business acumen, health & safety adherence and accreditation, plant and equipment, geographical spread, personnel and management, training facilities, environmental and quality accreditation, not to mention recognised experience in project management and established, long-term relationships with principal local authorities throughout the country.

In conjunction with Moroney’s technical capabilities and previous public lighting experience, Sierra will bring the expertise of its in-house Civil Division, which will be instrumental for any civil engineering components required for public lighting contracts such as underground excavations for broken cable, or pole replacement. Sierra’s Power Division will bring extensive experience working in a live-line environment, and experience with work at height and installation of poles etc as required.

Sierra’s Public Lighting Division is able to carry out all public and street lighting, motorway lighting, high-mast lighting, tunnel lighting and structures lighting. The new Division comes appropriately qualified, with RECI and AECI registration for its electricians.
